Thursday, April 10, 2025 / Categories: News & Updates Wildfire Mitigation Work & Douglas Fir Beetle Information Dear EagleVail Residents, We recognize the growing concern regarding the presence of beetles affecting Douglas fir trees in our community. The health of our forests is vital to EagleVail's beauty, safety, and ecological integrity, and we want to assure you that steps are being taken to address this issue. In designated areas, we contracted with Old Growth Forestry to implement effective mitigation efforts, including the strategic use of pheromone packets to help protect our Douglas fir trees. Old Growth was awarded this opportunity after a formal Request for Proposal process. These packets are designed to deter beetles when applied correctly and at the appropriate time. Proper timing and placement significantly enhance their effectiveness in reducing infestations and preserving our forested landscape. However, it is important to note that while pheromone packets can be a valuable tool, they are not guaranteed to work in all situations. This process will likely take place between mid-April and mid-May. While we are partnering with Old Growth Forestry in specific areas, we cannot recommend a particular company for individual homeowners. We encourage you to reach out to Old Growth Forestry or other qualified forestry service providers to discuss treatment options and coordinate the placement of pheromone packets on your property. A well-coordinated approach across the community will greatly improve the overall success of these efforts. We appreciate your attention to this matter and your commitment to the health of our local forests. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
